Well, I did it. I migrated to Substack.
1. Why this, why now?
If you follow me on LinkedIn, you know I’ve been writing online for years now. I started blogging back in 2003, and have jumped from platform to platform looking for a good fit for my writing. I eventually started my own website in 2015, sarahmancinho[dot]com, after frustration with the lack of available sites. I was publishing mostly on LinkedIn at the time and had gained a large following there, mainly because in 2016, LinkedIn named me a “Top 10 Voice in Technology” and a “must-know writer in tech”. They also included me to their annual list of the “Top 50 Big Ideas” and invited me to write about what my prediction for the new year (2017) was going to be. (My prediction was about privacy & encryption.) But, I was not happy with their publishing features, and around 2019-2020 I began publishing exclusively on my website. I wanted to own my content. I didn’t want my thoughts, ideas, and writings to be managed by some company user agreement or terms of service.
On my website, no one can tell me what to publish.
Fast forward to 2023, I had been seeing Substack mentioned here and there online in various places, and decided it might be a good compliment to my personal website and LinkedIn page. So here I am!
